How to Apply to Become a Volunteer

As a Federally Qualified Health Center, KC CARE is required to complete and maintain volunteer files and to provide comprehensive training to our volunteers. To become a volunteer, you will be asked the following:

  • To complete a phone screening and volunteer application.
  • To provide current professional licenses/certificates, as applicable.
  • To complete a general Volunteer Orientation, as well as any necessary training specific to your area of interest.
  • For clinical volunteers, to commit to a year of volunteering (once per month at minimum).

Our patients rely on us to maintain a standard of excellence for their care. As such, we ask that volunteers contact Volunteer Manager Debbie Skaggs to apply.

Available Volunteer Positions

Non-Clinical Volunteer Roles:

  • Front Office | Lobby Ambassador – Assist in greeting patients, answering phones, make reminder calls to patients, escort patients to various areas of the clinic such as pharmacy or lab, interact with patients waiting in the lobby area as part of our excellence in patient care.
    • Qualifications:  Outgoing and friendly personality, great phone etiquette and willingness to stand and move about the building throughout volunteer shift.

 

  • HIV Counseling and Testing Services (CATS) – Provide HIV testing to patients and, when necessary, refer and connect patients to other KC CARE resources for further care.
    • Qualifications:  Compassionate, non-judgmental, communicate effectively with patients and willingness to participate in a two-month training before beginning unsupervised activities.

 

  • Prevention Support – Assist in the Prevention Department by putting together safer sex kits, data collection packets or other light data entry projects and stocking supplies.
    • Qualifications: Comfortable using a computer with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products, willingness to be active during volunteer shift including walking, standing and bending.

 

  • Interpreter – Aid various departments interpreting for patients and/or staff.
    • Qualifications: Speak fluent Spanish  and communicate with staff and/or patients effectively.

Clinical Volunteer Roles:

  • Provider (Physician, NP, PA, Dentist) – Due to credentialing/privileging compliance requirements, please contact volunteer@kccare.org for additional information.

 

  • Medical Support (RN, LPN, EMT, MA, CNA or other relevent healthcare experience) – Escort patients, take vitals, height, weight and gather medical history information from patient.
    • Qualifications: Comfortable taking vitals (blood pressure, finger sticks, temp., ect) familiarity with medical terminology, friendly and outgoing, provide excellent care to our patients, willingness to be active throughout volunteer shift including walking, bending, and standing.

 

  • Scribe – Assist providers with charting in KC CARE’s electronic health record.
    • Qualifications: Computer savvy, clear understanding of medical terminology and enjoy a fast-paced environment.

 

  • Phlebotomist – Collect blood samples to send for medical testing.
    • Qualifications: Comfortable and knowledgeable about drawing blood from patients,  using proper collection and handling methods, friendly and outgoing in providing excellent care to our patients.

 

  • Dental Support – Escort patients to exam room and assist dental provider.
    • Qualifications: Comfortable and knowledgeable with dental office processes and procedures, basic understanding of dental terminology, friendly and outgoing in providing excellent care to our patients.

 

  • Preceptorship Program -This program is not accepting additional volunteers currently.  If you wish to be placed on a waiting list, please contact our Volunteer Manager at volunteer@kccare.org.
