How to Apply to Become a Volunteer

As a Federally Qualified Health Center, KC CARE is required to complete and maintain volunteer files and to provide comprehensive training to our volunteers. To become a volunteer, you will be asked the following:

  • Complete a volunteer application and follow-up interview questions.
  • To provide current professional licenses/certificates, as applicable.
  • To complete a general Volunteer Orientation, as well as any necessary training specific to your area of interest.
  • For clinical volunteers, you must commit to a “twice a month” minimum.

Available Volunteer Positions

Non-Clinical Volunteer Roles:

  • Interpreter – Aid various departments interpreting for patients and/or staff.
    • Qualifications: Speak fluent Spanish  and communicate with staff and/or patients effectively.
  • Registration Assistant – This role will greet and welcome patients as they come to get a COVID vaccine.  Responsible for making sure all forms are completed and enter information into our electronic medical record.
    • Qualifications: Outgoing, friendly, computer savvy to learn our electronic medical record.
  • Patient Services Screener Stationed at the entrance of the health center to take temperatures, ask symptom questions, distribute masks and/or hand sanitizer to all individuals coming in the door. Directing individuals to the appropriate areas once the screening process has taken place.
    • Qualifications: Extremely outgoing and have ·excellent people skills.  Ability to communicate effectively with our patients/staff and other volunteers. Work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demographic Data Entry Assistant – This position assists in scanning and documenting demographic information into our electronical medical records.
    • Qualifications: Must be comfortable using a computer and attend training for our electronic medical record.

Clinical Volunteer Roles:

  • Provider (Physician, NP, PA, Dentist) – Due to credentialing/privileging compliance requirements, please contact volunteer@kccare.org for additional information.
  • Medical Support (RN, LPN, EMT, MA, CNA or other relevent healthcare experience) – Escort patients, take vitals, height, weight and gather medical history information from patient.
    • Qualifications: Comfortable taking vitals (blood pressure, finger sticks, temp., ect) familiarity with medical terminology, friendly and outgoing, provide excellent care to our patients, willingness to be active throughout volunteer shift including walking, bending, and standing.
  • Dental Support – Escort patients to exam room and assist dental provider.
    • Qualifications: Comfortable and knowledgeable with dental office processes and procedures, basic understanding of dental terminology, friendly and outgoing in providing excellent care to our patients.
  • Preceptorship Program -This program is not accepting additional volunteers currently.  If you wish to be placed on a waiting list, please contact our Director of Credentialing and Volunteer Engagement at volunteer@kccare.org.
