Kansas City, September 27, 2018:  The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) awarded over $396 million to combat the opioid crisis by funding community health centers to expand access to integrated substance use disorder and mental health services.  Through this funding, KC CARE Health Center received an award of $285,000 to implement and advance evidence-based strategies to provide treatment for substance use disorder and other mental health needs in Kansas City

“We are thrilled to receive HRSA funds to aid our support of those seeking assistance with behavioral health and substance use-related conditions. These funds will support expansion in staffing and program scope, most notably to provide medication assisted treatment of substance use disorders (MAT) beginning in 2019,” said Jason Swartwood, KC CARE Director of Behavioral Health. The impact of these funds will be seen beyond the development of MAT, as this grant will help to strengthen current operations devoted to providing accessible, affordable, high-quality services for our patients.

KC CARE Behavioral Health Services include Therapy, Psychiatry, Substance Use Disorder Counseling and Non-Medication Pain Management.
