PrEP & PEP

PrEP, PEP, & Doxy PEP Medications are available to prevent the spread of HIV and STIs. PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) and PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) reduce the risk of transmission of the virus before or following possible exposure to HIV. DoxyPEP is a doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis treatment for syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea.

PrEP is a long-term antiretroviral medication that can prevent HIV infection. When taken daily, PrEP is 99% effective at preventing HIV infection through sex and 74% effective at preventing HIV infection through needle use.

PEP is a short-term course of HIV medication that should be taken as soon as possible after potential HIV exposure to reduce the risk of infection. PEP is 80% effective when taken within 24 hours of HIV exposure. PEP is not a substitute for the regular use of HIV prevention, such as condoms and PrEP. Ask your provider about PrEP and PEP.

DoxyPEP (doxycycline Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a short-term course antibiotic medication that should be taken as soon as possible after potential STI (chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis) exposure to reduce the risk of infection. DoxyPEP is up to 66% effective when taken within 72 hours of exposure to an STI. DoxyPEP is not a substitute for the regular use of STI prevention methods, such as condoms and dental dams.
